Even if Larsson were to put up 40 points, be a + 22 and the Oil make the playoffs, Hendo would still be lamenting this trade.
Hall for Doughty would have probably still pissed him off.

Not that I think the trade was even remotely good, but I think Larsson will be able to pitch in a good amount of offense playing with talent. I've seen a decent amount of him, and he makes a good first pass and has a good shot from the point, I think the main problem for him was that he was feeding arguably the worst offense in the league.

A lot of truth to this.

To say that Larsson won't help the offence could be a little short sighted. It isn't like New Jersey was a run and gun juggernaut.

Hall was traded... Move on. We lost the best player in the deal as of today, but we all know defencemen take longer to develop and he's a year younger. He could easily turn into a stud defender, we don know and that's the risk involved.

The fact is this deal doesn't happen if: we didn't get McDavid last year and the big Fin this year.

We all have the old guard poop for doing nothing... Now we give Chiarelli poop for making a big trade and bold move... Can't have it both ways if the team is still second last in the league.

That's fair I've only been reading these blogs more recently. I do understand his apprehension over lucic however

Lucic would be a welcome addition but his possible contract does scare the hell out of me to.
Then again its not my money and there is not a damn thing I can do about it.

Lucic is the best UFA out there if you base it on say the next 3 years.
But the last 4 years he could be severely over paid. Plus I am sure he is wanting an NMC.

The term is the only worry. Hell, I'd be ok with him on the Leafs on a 4 year contract, but rumblings that he's willing to take less yearly, for upwards to a 7 year term is absolutely concerning. Both he and his agent know what his utility will be a few years down the line

I'd expect Chiarelli to know better, and see this more as a mistake Benning should make

Trade Eberle for Barrie and then sign Brouwer to fill the hole like we're doing with Hall and Lucic.
